"Premature and/or low birth weight children require extra special dental care." ~Joseph Bernat, DDS, MS

The Infant Dental Plate program was designed specifically to assist premature and/or low birth weight infants in protecting the palate from deformation due to the pressure of either a breathing or feeding tube.  The acrylic plate prevents palatal grooving and enamel defects on primary teeth, and aids the overall development of the upper jaw.

Our pediatric faculty, residents, and hygienists take an impression of the infant's mouth, and have the palatal plate custom made for each child.  Nurses and parents are given instructions on its daily care and use.  When the tubes are removed, the plate is no longer needed.
