A lot of my training and views on clinical periodontics especially are based on my experiences in Oral Biology in Buffalo. For me, I tried to tie in stuff with gene expression and bone cells and now I still look at bacterial component activation in immune response and bone loss, much of what is the basis for periodontal disease. The program allowed me to seek training outside the department because I wanted different expertise. We were able to utilize what’s in the department as well as what’s in the university and I think that is still a strength of that program.
