Research Profile

Research focus is on understanding how estrogens affect gene expression in target tissues including normal and neoplastic bone and breast tissues. Estrogens regulate the expression of the inositol trisphosphate receptor (IP3R) gene in both tissues. Research topics include: identifying specific transcription factors associated with the estrogen on the IP3R gene promoter in vivo by utilizing chromatin precipitation assays and defining the role played by the AP-2 transcription factor in estrogen-regulated gene expression. Methods include ex vivo culturing of normal and transformed human breast epithelial cells as well as of normal neonatal rat osteoblast precursor cells.
