Research Profile
Our laboratory is studying the immunochemistry and cellular biochemistry of inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the periodontal tissues and salivary glands, as well as kidney and skin. We also are investigating the role of macrophages, and other components of the cellular immune system, in the pathogenesis of connective tissue disorders. Additional studies involve clinical and immunological trials of alloplastic and xenogenic bone grafts and collagens in periodontal regenerative therapy. The goals of our studies are to identify regulatory mechanisms important in gingival and salivary gland inflammation, to further explore regenerative modalities in periodontal therapy, and to provide a foundation for molecular biological and immunopharmacological therapy of those disorders. Our studies are grant supported by public and corporate sponsors.
